Christmas in Heath Is Back in Towne Center Park, and Now It Shares a Saturday With Rockwall's

Christmas in Heath is going back to Towne Center Park on Saturday, December 5, 2026, from 4 to 8 p.m. The City of Heath's event page puts a short line above the date: "Moving to The First Saturday In December." Rockwall's Hometown Christmas falls on that same Saturday. Its parade starts at 9 a.m., the festival on the square runs until 5 p.m., and the City Hall tree lighting runs from 6 to 8 p.m.

In recent years the two celebrations fell on different nights, so families could go to both on back-to-back evenings. In 2026 they share one Saturday. Most of that Saturday fits together in sequence, but from 4 p.m. on, the two cities' schedules overlap.

Four Years, Three Settings, Two Different Weeknights

Heath has had a hard time keeping its Christmas celebration in one place, because Towne Center Park was closed for its long renovation. The last four Decembers look like this:

Year Date Setting Hours
2023 Friday, Dec. 1 Towne Center Park 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
2024 Saturday, Nov. 23 Holiday Market at Hidden Creek in The Reserve, 215 Chris Cuny Parkway 4 to 9 p.m.
2025 Friday, Dec. 5 Standard Service, 4240 Ridge Road 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
2026 Saturday, Dec. 5 Towne Center Park, 1000 Festival Street 4 to 8 p.m.

The Rockwall Herald-Banner reported that the event would be "on hiatus for 2024 because of the renovation of Towne Center Park." That year a Holiday Market sponsored by the Heath EDC and MBC took its place, held on a Saturday in late November. In 2025, with the park still closed for final work, Heath resident Elias Pope hosted the celebration at his restaurant, Standard Service, on Ridge Road.

The 2026 edition moves on two fronts at once. It goes back to the park it was built around, and it switches from a Friday evening to a Saturday that starts at 4 p.m. The City has not published a reason for the date change. On March 17, 2026, the Heath Park Board posted an agenda that included a discussion of a bigger Christmas in Heath celebration, alongside the park's soft opening and grand opening events. That item does not explain the timing either.

Rockwall Has Held the First Saturday

The switch matters because of where Rockwall already sits on the calendar. Hometown Christmas fell on Saturday, December 7, 2024, according to the City's January 2025 newsletter. In 2025, Blue Ribbon News listed it for Saturday, December 6, with the parade at 9 a.m., the festival from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the tree lighting from 6 to 8 p.m. Rockwall's official event page gives the same lineup for Saturday, December 5, 2026.

That makes three years in a row of first-Saturday dates for Rockwall. Heath, in its two most recent years at a regular venue, used Friday nights. When Christmas in Heath landed on Friday, December 5, 2025, Rockwall's parade was the next morning. In 2026 both cities' calendars point to the same day.

The overlap starts at 4 p.m. Heath's celebration runs from 4 to 8 p.m. Rockwall's square festival runs until 5 p.m., and its tree lighting runs from 6 to 8 p.m., with the tree lit around 6:15. Everything before 4 p.m. fits together without a conflict. After that, you have to choose: the last hour of the square festival, then the tree lighting, competes with all four of Heath's hours.

Rockwall's Day Runs on a Fixed Clock

Rockwall's schedule is posted in full, so it's the easiest part to plan around:

  • 9 to 10:30 a.m., 57th Annual Kiwanis Christmas Parade. More than 100 floats travel a 1.5-mile route from the Rockwall County Library on Yellowjacket Lane to Historic Downtown Rockwall. Streets on the route close for the length of the parade, and the City says it goes on rain or shine.
  • 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Hometown Christmas Festival on the Rockwall Square. The holiday market sells items like artisan chocolate, pecans, pound cakes, jellies and spices. Santa and the Grinch stay in San Jacinto Plaza with their sleigh all day. Kids' activities include bounce houses, a snow play area, slides and train rides.
  • 6 to 8 p.m., 43rd Annual Tree Lighting at CityPlace on the City Hall campus. The lighting happens around 6:15. There's hot chocolate, holiday cookies from the Rockwall Women's League, and there's another chance for a photo with Santa.

Parking is the detail that holds the downtown day together. The City lists parking at The Center, 108 East Washington Street, and at City Hall, 385 South Goliad Street. A free trolley runs from the First Baptist youth parking lot at 710 South Goliad Street to The Center from 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Since the trolley runs past the end of the tree lighting, one parking spot can cover the whole Rockwall day.

What Heath Has Posted, and What It Hasn't Yet

Heath's page is thinner. Here is what it says about 2026:

An expanded 2026 Christmas in Heath returns to Towne Center Park on Saturday, December 5, 4:00-8:00 p.m.

The page adds that "attendees can expect all of the favorite traditions," listing Santa, miniature train rides, complimentary home-baked cookies, food trucks and live music, "and more." In early October, the schedule section still reads "Watch for the updated schedule this summer!" and a date field above it shows a placeholder. The City hasn't yet said what "expanded" means. The page credits the Special Events Board "and Sponsors" without naming any, and it lists no new attractions, parking plan or shuttle arrangements.

The 2025 event offers a useful baseline, as long as you treat it as last year's lineup and not a promise for this one. At Standard Service, Blue Ribbon News reported photos with Santa, live reindeer, miniature train rides, glow-with-Rudolph activities, letters to Santa, and cookies from the Lone Star and Pearl NCL Chapters and the boys' charity team Lakeside League. Food came from food trucks, Culpepper's live-fire cooking and the full Standard Service menu. Santa's Souvenir Shoppe sold Heath merchandise. The Rockwall-Heath High School Jazz Band and Drumline opened the music at 5:30 p.m., and Memphis Soul played after them.

Getting there was also part of the 2025 event. Trolley buses with Christmas caroling ran from 5 to 10 p.m. from four pickup points: Tom Thumb on Laurence Drive, Holy Trinity by the Lake Episcopal Church, First Baptist Church Heath and Heath First United Methodist Church. The Heath Police and Fire Association also covered a free Uber ride home. Those services supported an event at a restaurant on Ridge Road. Whether they come back for an event at Towne Center Park is one of the things the updated schedule should answer.

The Special Events Board puts on the celebration. In 2025, Jenni Knox chaired the board, with members Amanda Rosander, Tami Hogan, Karen Myers and Sandra Ownby.

Building December 5 Around the Overlap

Because Heath opens at 4 p.m., while the square festival runs until 5 and the tree lighting starts at 6, the day breaks into a few versions. Each one gives something up after 4 p.m.:

  1. Rockwall all day, Heath to close. Parade at 9, the square until mid-afternoon, then Towne Center Park from its 4 p.m. opening through 8 p.m. You get Heath's full evening and skip the 6:15 lighting at CityPlace.
  2. Rockwall all day, tree lighting to close. Parade, festival and the 6:15 lighting, with Christmas in Heath left out. This is the version closest to past years, minus Heath's Friday night.
  3. Morning in Rockwall, evening in Heath, with a break between. Catch the parade and a couple of hours on the square, then head to Towne Center Park after it opens at 4. This covers the parade and Heath's full four hours, and leaves out the late-afternoon square and the tree lighting.

How long it takes to get between downtown Rockwall and Towne Center Park on a busy Saturday evening, and whether Heath brings back last year's shuttles, will decide which plan works best. Neither has been published yet. Heath's updated schedule is the document to watch for.

The Saturday Three Weeks Earlier

November 14 also stacks two events within hours of each other, which gives you a lower-stakes run at the same kind of planning. The free 7th Annual Rockwall County Sheriff's Posse Round-Up takes over Historic Downtown Rockwall Square from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. with food, vendors, entertainment and children's activities. That same day, Helping Hands' Festival of Trees runs its free public holiday pop-up shop from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Hilton Dallas/Rockwall Lakefront, 2055 Summer Lee Drive. The shop also opens on Friday, November 13, alongside the luncheon and style show. The Saturday gala features the Josh Abbott Band.

Unlike December 5, those two daytime events overlap by only a few hours, so getting to both is easy. In December the timing gets tighter, and Heath's own schedule hasn't been posted yet.

Big community days like December 5 are when the area looks its best, and that's the same care we put into presenting homes here.
